Punched in the stomach

Essentially Dr. X (the co-chair that was out of the country) is the one who said, "You've got 3 weeks to get the rest done.... " Well Michael did that. He finished all 5 chapters. It is a huge hurdle.

And now Dr. X is saying that since he just got it, he can't review it in time, nor give it to the committee in time, to sign the all important Intent to Graduate form. So that means, without a doubt that Michael will not graduate in May of '08. He will probably graduate in the summer of '08.

The downside to that is we probably won't be here. We hopefully will be moving to what ever location has the next step for us. We are upset, disappointed, distraught, angry..... you name it... that he won't have the opportunity to walk across the stage and be hooded as a PhD. It is so important to Michael to walk, to have that picture to cherish, to have Jacob see it, make that memory.... etc.
